You spent hours building your opt-in page; it’s finally uploaded to your web host. The task of advertising your free offer on traffic exchanges, banner ads, maybe even pay-per click is starting to pay off.
Now you have a fairly large number of subscribers. Eagerly you send out the first e-mails and to your surprise no one has clicked on any of the website links. The problem might be your e-mail was never opened.

After a visitor signs up, they know that they will be receiving
updates and news from your website and the market you represent via an e-mail. But that doesn’t mean that all of those who subscribe to your list will read your e-mails. Lists are sometimes built using various types of free offers, such as software, a promotional discount and other such enticements. Sometimes subscribers are not really interested in receiving e-mails from you and just disregard them and delete them without so much as opening the e-mail and looking it over.

That can be all turned around. Sending an e-mail message is relatively simple after writing your newsletter or promotion. Getting subscribers to open them is the challenge. You don’t want all of your hard work and time in creating newsletters, and offers to be wasted, you want your list of subscribers to read them and have their curiosity level raised. You want them interested enough to go to your website and look at what you have to offer and especially purchase your products or services.

One of the many ways you can persuade your subscribers to open your e-mail is by providing a well thought out and well written subject line. The subject line of an email is what is most often looked at when a person or a recipient of an email decides whether he or she wants to open or delete it. The subject line could easily be regarded as one of the most important part of your e-mail.

Your subject line must be short and to the point. It should provide a summary of what the e-mail is about so that the reader will have an idea what’s inside, this is extremely important when trying to get the attention of your subscribers. You want you’re subject line to immediately grab the attention of your subscriber and to arouse their curiosity to open up your mail. Remember, just because someone is on your list does not mean they will open your mail or that they will even remember signing up through your opt-in page.

A good subject line should compel the recipient to open your e-mail.
It is important to use specific words to get the effect you need. Keep in mind that your subscribers spend only a few seconds looking over the subject line of the e-mails he or she receives. You must grab their attention right away.

There are different variations you can use for your subject line.
Using “how to tips” or “steps to” in a subject line will give the sub scriber an idea what the content of the e-mail is about. You can also put your subject line in the form of a question. These might include questions like “looking for a new job?” or “is your boss always harassing you?” Try to stay on the subject that’s relevant to what your website is about because you already know visitors to your site signed up because their interested in that topic. These types of subject lines are highly useful because they reach out to your subscribers emotions. When they read the question in the subject line of your e-mail, they automatically begin thinking of an answer.

Subject lines that tell your subscriber what to do are also very effective. Some examples of these might be “act now” “double your pay check” or “get this limited offer if you act now”. Using any of these types of subject lines listed above in your e-mail marketing will show the benefits your business has to offer, and significantly increase the click through rate of your readers.
